Shaira removes ‘Selos’ song due to copyright concerns with Lenka’s track

Mindanao-based singer Shaira Moro, known as the “Queen of Bangsamoro Pop,” has made headlines after her viral song “Selos” was taken down from all streaming platforms due to a copyright issue. It was found that the song heavily borrowed the melody from Australian artist Lenka’s 2008 hit “Trouble Is A Friend.”

Lenka confirmed her awareness of “Selos” and stated that they had taken action regarding the matter, leading to the song’s removal from platforms such as Spotify. In response, Shaira’s agency, AHS Productions, voluntarily removed the song as they work on securing a cover license for “Selos.”

AHS Productions released a statement on Facebook explaining the situation and expressing gratitude to the fans who supported the song’s popularity. They apologized for the takedown and hinted at upcoming original music from Shaira in the future.

“Selos” gained popularity on TikTok and the music video, which garnered over nine million views on YouTube, included a disclaimer emphasizing that it was a parody created for entertainment purposes. Aside from “Trouble Is A Friend,” Lenka is known for her other hits like “The Show” and “Everything At Once.”

Fans can expect new music from Shaira in the near future as AHS Productions teased in the comments section of their statement.
