Ex-TV Staff Transitions to Successful Career as Producer of Nutritious Food Supplements

Marikina-Based Manufacturer of Healthy Food Supplements Receives Recognition

A recent reconnection with former co-workers at TV network RPN-9 led to the discovery of Tropical Palm Herb Manufacturing, a company started in 2013 by ex-officemate and TV staff Maria Teresa Boquiron Santiano.

Tess, as she is known, has been producing healthy food supplements like capsules and tablets from malunggay, guyabano, ampalaya, and other local fruits and vegetables. Her products have caught the attention of several celebrity clients who are eager to avail of her healthy product line.

These plants have been celebrated here and abroad as sources of good medicine. Malunggay, or moringa, for example, is a superfood packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Malunggay powder and capsules are believed to have various health benefits, including lowering cholesterol and sugar levels, relieving asthma, and eliminating constipation.

Ampalaya has been shown to lower blood sugar, reduce fever, and relieve headaches, while guyabano is known for its anti-cancer properties and ability to relieve kidney problems and nerve damage.

Maritess runs a malunggay farm in Sariaya, Quezon, where she produces high-quality malunggay leaves, seeds, and pods used in various dishes and supplements. Her farm follows sustainable and organic farming practices, and she also produces supplements using sambong, mangosteen, banaba, and serpentina. A bee farm within the area produces natural honey.

Apart from manufacturing herbal food supplements that are 100 percent natural, Maritess is also committed to helping local farmers from whom she sources ingredients for her supplements.

“I am proud to say that these food supplements are made with natural and organic ingredients only,” she says.

Her dedication to her work has not gone unnoticed. Tropical Herb was recently awarded Q Asia’s Seal of Product and Quality Service at the 23rd Q Asia’s Quality Excellence Awards held on Oct. 18, 2023 at the Diamond Hotel in Manila.
