Rescue teams search through debris following Russian airstrikes that claim 39 lives in Ukraine.

At least 39 people were killed after Russian missile strikes in Ukraine on December 29. Several civilians were killed as schools, a maternity hospital, shopping arcades, and blocks of flats were targeted. Photos showed Ukrainian servicemen inspecting missile remains in the aftermath of the attacks. The attacks were denounced by the United Nations, and NATO expressed its solidarity with Ukraine. The strikes triggered fresh promises of military support to Ukraine. Several regions of the country faced the missiles, which killed and injured dozens of people. The U.S. and Britain announced plans to send more weapons and military aid to Ukraine. The UN called for an immediate cessation of the attacks. Despite repeated air assaults, Ukraine is asking its Western allies for ongoing military support to end the ongoing terror.
