Farmers and residents in Santa, Ilocos Sur are now enjoying more convenient and accessible transport of products and services with the construction of a farm-to-market (FMR) road by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
In his report to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Undersecretary Eugenio R. Pipo Jr., in-charge of Regions 1, 2, CAR and Mindanao Operations, DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan said that the new FMR in Barangay Nagpanaoan is now being utilized by local farmers in transporting their agricultural products to the market and town proper.
“We are hoping to support local productivity with this newly-improved road that passes through vast agricultural areas planted with rice, corn, vegetables, and farm lands which houses various livestock,” said Director Tan.
The completed project involved widening and concreting of a one-lane road into two (2) lanes that also serves as an alternate route to the Abra River Quarrying Site.
A total of P14.48-million was allocated under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for the completion of the project implemented by DPWH Ilocos Sur District Engineering Office.
