Phivolcs reports Leyte hit by 4.5 magnitude earthquake.



A 4.5-magnitude earthquake shook Leyte province on Wednesday evening, September 6, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The earthquake, which occurred at 10:38 p.m., had its epicenter located 6 kilometers (km) northwest of Capoocan, Leyte, as reported by Phivolcs. It was measured at a shallow depth of 8 km beneath the epicenter.

The intensity of the earthquake was measured by Phivolcs’ instruments, with Kananga, Leyte experiencing Intensity V (strong), Carigara, Leyte at Intensity IV (moderately strong), Ormoc City, Leyte at Intensity III (weak), and Villaba and Calubian, Leyte at Intensity II (slightly felt).

Phivolcs stated that the earthquake was tectonic in nature, meaning it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area. However, they do not anticipate any damage or aftershocks as a result of this particular earthquake.
