Mother arrested for human trafficking, rape, and cybercrime after selling her three daughters online

A mother in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for human trafficking, rape, and cybercrime after she was caught selling her three daughters online. The NBI tracked the suspect through her Internet Protocol (IP) address, leading to her arrest in San Luis.

The mother, known as “Joli,” is facing charges for Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) under Republic Act (RA) 11862 and RA 7610 for child abuse and rape by sexual assault. The NBI, along with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), have taken custody of the three minors.

This case marks the second OSAEC case in Northern Mindanao this year. According to the NBI, they have handled over 600 OSAEC cases since 2019, with 15 individuals arrested and 92 children rescued in 2023 alone. The NBI highlighted the prevalence of foreigners seeking Filipina women through dating apps as a red flag for potential exploitation cases.
