Hontiveros urges government to tackle power issues

Government Urged to Address Power Supply Shortage

Senator Risa Hontiveros has called on various Philippine government agencies to tackle the issue of the country’s power supply shortage. Hontiveros specifically mentioned the Department of Energy, the Energy Regulatory Commission, and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.

In a statement, Hontiveros expressed concern over the lack of energy within the Department of Energy and emphasized the need for proactive measures from the agency. She suggested that the DOE should reconsider using the loss of load probability (LOLP) method, which she deemed more reliable in forecasting power supply availability.

According to Hontiveros, using the LOLP method would have helped the DOE determine the necessary additional capacity to prevent frequent brownouts during peak seasons. She emphasized the importance of taking action based on probability and flexibility rather than relying solely on prayers to avoid power plant shutdowns.

Hontiveros highlighted the urgency for the government to address the power supply issues to ensure a more stable and reliable energy grid in the country.
