Hontiveros Asserts That Quiboloy Is Not Above the Law

Senator Risa Hontiveros pushes for subpoena of Apollo Quiboloy

Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros remains steadfast in her decision to issue a subpoena to self-proclaimed “Appointed Son of God” Apollo Quiboloy, despite his well-connected status as leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC).

Hontiveros emphasized the Senate committee’s authority to compel the attendance of witnesses, stating that no matter how influential they may be, they must comply. She highlighted previous instances where even high-ranking officials submitted to Senate subpoenas.

She underscored that Quiboloy, like all witnesses, is entitled to constitutional rights but is not above the law. As the chairperson of the Senate committee on women, children, family relations, and gender equality, Hontiveros is leading the investigation into alleged crimes committed by Quiboloy and the KJC.

Despite repeated invitations, Quiboloy has yet to appear before the Senate probe. Hontiveros called on him to show up and address the accusations directly. Quiboloy, on the other hand, challenged the senator to file a case against him in court instead.

The Senate remains open to hearing Quiboloy’s side, with Hontiveros stressing that they are waiting for his appearance. The sect leader criticized witnesses against him for concealing their identities during the Senate inquiry, yet he has failed to present himself at the public hearing.

While Quiboloy continues to evade the Senate probe, Hontiveros remains resolute in her pursuit of accountability, urging the controversial religious leader to participate in the proceedings and respond to the allegations made against him.
