Filipino-American actress Liza Soberano recently attended and served as a judge at the 1st Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival in Vietnam. During the event, Sheron Dayoc’s film “Gospel of the Beast” was awarded the prestigious Golden Star Award for Best Film.

Soberano made a stunning appearance on the red carpet in a simple yet elegant black dress, exuding sophistication with her hair styled in a sleek bun. She was one of the judges in the First or Second Film Category, which focuses on debut or second feature films from emerging talents worldwide.

Joining Soberano on the judging panel were notable figures like Oscar-winning editor Tom Cross, film producer John Badalu, and film director Nguyen Thanh Van. She also had the honor of presenting the Best Actress award at the festival.

Former Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) President Liza Diño took to Instagram to congratulate Dayoc on his film’s success, praising his work for offering a realistic and fatalistic view of Filipino gang life. Dayoc’s film premiered at the 2023 Tokyo International Film Festival and competed against other notable films in the category.

The Southeast Asia Film award at the festival was judged by a panel of esteemed film critics and directors, including well-known industry figures like Hoang Cam Giang and Bao Nguyen. Dayoc’s win at the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival marks a significant achievement for Filipino cinema on the global stage.
