Filinvest and Hitachi Collaborate to Construct Cutting-Edge Water Recycling Plant in Alabang

Filinvest Development Corp. (FDC) subsidiary, FDC Water Utilities Inc., has announced a partnership with Hitachi Ltd. to construct an advanced water recycling facility and upgraded sewage treatment plant (STP). The project aims to provide innovative urban water management in Muntinlupa’s business district, particularly Alabang.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Oct. 17, the Filinvest Group emphasized its commitment to sustainability and efficient water operations across all their developments. Josephine Gotianun Yap, FDC vice-chairperson, stated that Filinvest City will become the first sustainable and smart central business district in the country.

Construction is set to begin in December 2023, with FDC Water Utilities leading the project development. The completion of the water facilities is expected by March 2026, with the upgraded STP capable of processing up to 15 million liters of wastewater daily.

The STP will utilize Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology to remove biological nutrients, in compliance with the country’s regulations on nitrogen and phosphorus removal. The MBR technology will replace the conventional sludge method.

The new water reuse facility will produce high-quality recycled water for household use. Through Brackish Water Reverse Osmosis (BWRO) and Advanced Oxidation processes, the facility can hold at least 10.5 million liters per day and improve water production.

Juan Eugenio Roxas, FDC Water president and CEO, highlighted that the project will revolutionize wastewater treatment and water production. The seamless integration of sewage treatment and recycled water technologies in the project sets a new standard for environmentally responsible development.

Hitachi Ltd., a prominent Japanese corporation involved in information technology, telecom, power, infrastructure, and industry, is partnering with Filinvest for this project. The company aims to build social, sustainable, and innovative data processing and technology solutions.

Okito Kakudo, Hitachi Environmental Solutions group’s general manager, praised Filinvest for addressing water shortages in the Philippines. Through the partnership, the environmental footprint of Filinvest City will be reduced, minimizing pollution in Alabang’s waterways. The recycled water from the new facility will provide a reliable supply of clean water to local businesses and residents, preserving valuable freshwater sources.

Filinvest City has been a self-sufficient community for the past 30 years, aspiring to become a benchmark for smart cities in the Philippines. With this clean water initiative, Filinvest continues to prioritize sustainability and environmental responsibility.
