DICT at the ITU Headquarters

DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy and Undersecretary Jocelle Batapa-Sigue met with Secretary-General Houlin Zhao of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva, Switzerland, last September 14, 2022, to share the Philippines’ digital transformation agenda.

The Philippines, led by the DICT, is vying for an ITU council seat for the term 2023-2026. The upcoming re-elections for the ITU Council membership reopens at the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-22), which will be held in Bucharest, Romania from 26 September to 14 October 2022.

Secretary Uy also expressed his gratitude towards Mr. Zhao for all the support given to the Philippines since he was elected as the Secretary-General in 2014.

The two officials also paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Evan P. Garcia, Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations and Other International Organizations in Geneva, and had a fruitful discussion with ITU officials and representatives from other countries about e-government and digital education.
