Duterte to enter the race for the next election

Vice President Sara Duterte Announces Intention to Run in Next Election

Vice President Sara Duterte has declared her intention to run again in the next election, although she did not specify the position she plans to seek.

During a speech at an event in her hometown of Davao City, Duterte stated, “I heard that my brothers Mayor Baste and Congressman Pulong said that they won’t run in the next election, so I am here now to campaign because I will run in the next election.”

The Vice President did not disclose the position she hopes to seek, but her term as the country’s vice president will end in 2028. The midterm election will be held in 2025, while the national elections for president will be in 2028.

Duterte’s father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, had previously advised her not to seek the presidency following the House of Representatives’ questioning of her confidential funds.

In a subsequent interview with local media, Vice President Duterte appeared to backtrack, stating, “Life and politics are just the same. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow. So, we are open to all possibilities, especially in the upcoming elections. Running is a personal decision.”

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) has not issued an official statement to clarify Duterte’s remarks.
