DOJ issues guidelines for building cases involving online sexual harassment

The Department of Justice has announced the development of guidelines for gathering evidence and building cases related to gender-based online sexual harassment (GBOSH). The Justice department revealed that they worked in collaboration with the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation to create these guidelines.

According to the press release, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla emphasized the importance of these guidelines in the fight against online violence, stating that they are dedicated to creating a safer digital environment for all Filipinos. Justice Undersecretary Raul Vasquez also highlighted the significance of the guidelines, noting that they provide a structured approach for law enforcement and prosecution efforts against sexual predators.

The guidelines are designed to equip authorities with the necessary tools to effectively investigate and prosecute offenders, including electronic evidence regardless of its location. It was mentioned that GBOSH can be penalized under the Republic Act 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
