Cash aid distributed to 534 rice vendors in Manila

Over 534 beneficiaries in Manila have received cash aid on the second day of distribution at the Dapitan Sports Complex in Sampaloc, Manila according to an announcement made by the local government. The cash assistance program is a collaboration between the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the city government.

The beneficiaries, who are micro rice vendors and sari-sari store owners from Manila’s districts 3, 4, and 6, each received a sum of P15,000. This follows the distribution of cash assistance to 795 beneficiaries from districts 1 and 2 on Wednesday, Oct. 11.

The city government reported that an additional 690 micro rice vendors from District 5 will receive their monetary aid on Friday, Oct. 13, at the San Andres Complex in Malate, Manila. These beneficiaries have provided their business permits as vendors of regular and well-milled rice, as required by the DSWD and DTI.

The cash distribution program aligns with President Marcos’s directive to provide support to small rice retailers affected by the temporary price ceiling on rice, which was enforced through Executive Order No. 39. This order came into effect on Sept. 5 and was lifted on Oct. 4.
