Massive Fire Engulfs Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, Causing Extensive Damage
DUBAI — A significant fire erupted at Tehran’s Grand Bazaar in Iran’s capital, causing substantial damage to the historic market. However, there have been no reported casualties from the incident, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency on Tuesday.
The fire broke out in Ahangaran’s Bazaar within the Grand Bazaar and quickly spread, engulfing approximately 30 warehouses and shops, stated the spokesperson of Tehran’s fire department.
Fortunately, firefighters managed to bring the massive blaze under control without any injuries. However, significant financial losses are expected as a result of the incident, Tasnim reported.
The Grand Bazaar in Tehran is one of the oldest and largest markets in the Middle East, attracting numerous tourists and locals. It is known for its diverse range of merchandise, including textiles, jewelry, spices, and handicrafts.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire and are conducting investigations to ascertain the origin. However, initial reports suggest that an electrical fault may have triggered the incident.
