Aviation Security Assessment at Cebu Airport

The Office for Transportation Security (OTS), together with inspectors of the United States Transportation Security Administration (US TSA) concluded the six-day joint security assessment of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport last Friday, which began on December 4 and ends on December 09, 2022. The joint security assessment aims to verify the adequate implementation of security measures by airport operator and authorities, as well as the airlines operating flight to and from the United States, such as the Cathay Pacific Airlines.

During the exit brief, the US-TSA expressed its overall satisfaction with the security implementation at Mactan-Cebu International Airport emphasizing that it is well within the Standards and Recommended Practice embodied in the Annex 17 to the Chicago Convention.

OTS Administrator Undersecretary Ma.O Aplasca similarly expressed his appreciation to the US-TSA for its continued support and assistance in order to improve the overall security systems specially for major airports in the Philippines.

During his visit in the US, Usec. Aplasca was able to secure the approval of his counterpart in the US TSA for the provision of trainings for OTS Security Screening Officers with no cost to the Philippine Government, as well as the donation of additional advanced security screening technologies.
