A Chinese National Drowned While Scuba Diving in Batangas

LUCENA CITY — A tragic incident occurred when a Chinese national drowned while scuba diving in the waters off Mabini town in Batangas province. According to a report from the Batangas police on Friday, April 26, Shunyan Li, a resident of Pasay City, was diving with two friends near Barangay Solo around 10:30 a.m. when he encountered oxygen toxicity.

Despite his companions’ efforts to bring him to a local hospital, Li was declared dead upon arrival. The police report mentioned that oxygen toxicity can occur in divers using nitrox or mixed gases if they exceed the maximum operating depth for the gas they are breathing.

Police are currently conducting further investigations into the incident, and the victim’s remains will undergo a post-mortem examination and autopsy to determine the cause of death. The case has been classified as a “drowning” incident for the time being.
