Wider Bridge Connecting Makati-Mandaluyong Nears Completion

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is on track for the 2021 opening of Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge connecting Estrella Street in Makati City and Barangka Drive in Mandaluyong City.

Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the expansion of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge—also known as the Rockwell Bridge—into a two-way, four-lane bridge is expected to greatly improve vehicular movement between the two (2) highly urbanized cities of Metro Manila.

Construction of new Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge is now in its 78.5 percent completion and once fully completed will be able to accommodate around 50,000 vehicles per day, added Secretary Villar.

The Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge Project is part of the Metro Manila Logistics Improvement Program to ease heavy traffic along EDSA.

According to DPWH Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Emil K. Sadain, the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge Project involves the replacement of an old existing steel truss bridge with a prestressed concrete rigid frame bridge (with V-shape piers) having a 4-lane concrete deck slab of 506.46 lineal meters.

The project is one (1) of the two (2) grant bridges from the People’s Republic China with the other bridge known as the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge Project connecting the historic Walled City of Intramuros and the Manila’s commerce and trade district of Binondo, said Undersecretary Sadain.

The construction of a new Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge as well as the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge is being implemented by the DPWH Unified Project Management Office – Roads Management Cluster 1 under the leadership of Project Director Virgilio Castillo.
