Ateneo Secures 6th Victory Against La Salle; Takes On Undefeated UST in Next Challenge

University of the Philippines Set to Face De La Salle in UAAP Men’s Basketball Tournament

The University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons, led by Malick Diouf, are looking to maintain their unbeaten record as they face off against the De La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament. The game is set to take place on Wednesday, October 18th, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Currently standing at 5-0, the Fighting Maroons are coming off a dominating win against the winless University of Santo Tomas (UST), with a final score of 110-79. However, their last two games of the elimination round are expected to be tough, as they face off against De La Salle and defending champions Ateneo.

UP is off to their best start in the tournament since 1997 and hopes to carry the momentum of their previous win into the game against De La Salle. On the other hand, De La Salle is eager to bounce back from their recent overtime loss to National University, which ended with a score of 80-77.

Kevin Quiambao will continue to be a key player for the Green Archers, following his impressive performance in the previous game with a season-high of 25 points and 11 rebounds. Both teams had an even head-to-head record from last season, and this upcoming match is expected to be an exciting matchup.

In the first game of the day, Ateneo will go up against the struggling UST. The reigning champions have had a challenging season so far, coming off another overtime defeat against the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, who grabbed their first victory this season. UST, on the other hand, is hoping to secure their first win after going winless in their previous five games.

UST’s losing streak has now reached 18 games, which includes last season’s dismal 1-13 finish in the standings. It is the longest losing streak in the school’s history, surpassing the previous record of 17 straight losses.

In the other matches of the day, National University aims to extend their winning streak to three games as they face the struggling University of the East at 12 noon. Meanwhile, Adamson University and Far Eastern University are both inspired heading into their 2 p.m. encounter, following their recent victories.

The highly-anticipated game between UP and De La Salle is expected to be a thrilling showdown between two competitive teams. Fans and basketball enthusiasts are eagerly waiting to see if UP can continue their impressive run and secure another win in the tournament.
