De La Salle Escapes University of the East in UAAP Season 86 Men’s Basketball Tournament

In a thrilling match on Saturday night, Oct. 21, the De La Salle Green Archers managed to overcome a slow start and beat the University of the East Red Warriors, 83-75, to conclude the first round of the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament. The game took place at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion.

Kevin Quiambao was the star of the game for De La Salle, as he came close to achieving a triple-double. Quiambao contributed 17 points, nine rebounds, and 12 assists. Meanwhile, Raven Cortez led the scoring for the Green Archers with 18 points.

De La Salle overcame back-to-back losses and finished the first round with a 4-3 record. Their victory was crucial in boosting their confidence and solidifying their position in the tournament.

Evan Nelle, who made his return after being sidelined in the previous game, scored 14 points on an impressive 4-of-5 shooting from the inside.

The game reached a critical point in the fourth period when De La Salle found themselves trailing by just one point with a score of 62-63. However, a massive 19-7 run from the Green Archers gave them a comfortable 81-70 lead, their biggest advantage of the match.

Despite an attempt by Ethan Galang to bring the Red Warriors back into the game with a three-pointer, which reduced the deficit to 81-73, it was not enough. De La Salle held on and emerged victorious.

Head coach Topex Robinson expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, saying, “Again, we’re fortunate enough to get this victory. But we didn’t really look well at the start of the ball game. But the guys responded to the challenge, especially Raven. Everybody contributed at the start of the third quarter.”

Rey Remogat of the University of the East put on an impressive show in the first half, recording a double-double. However, his impact was limited in the second half, and he finished the game with 13 points and 13 assists. Abdul Sawat also contributed 13 points for the Red Warriors, while Precious Momowei finished with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
