Police in Italy took a creative approach to combatting illegal garbage dumping by returning two couches to the perpetrator’s front yard via dump truck. The incident, which occurred in Romano di Lombardia near Bergamo in northern Italy, was captured on surveillance cameras.
The man who dumped the couches faces a potential fine of up to 10,000 euros ($10,900) for his actions. Romano Mayor Sebastian Nicoli emphasized the symbolic nature of the home delivery punishment, stating that those who engage in illegal dumping will face consequences for their actions.
The humorous video released by the police served as a public service message against illegal garbage dumping. It featured footage of the couches being returned to the perpetrator’s lawn, accompanied by the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”
