Janella Salvador criticizes bias against Filipino movies

Janella Salvador Speaks out Against Filipinos who Snub Local Films

Actress Janella Salvador recently took to Instagram to express her frustration towards Filipinos who exhibit prejudice towards local films compared to Hollywood productions, which they often consider as superior entertainment.

Salvador shared a post by her “Under Parallel Skies” film producer Richard Juan, detailing an encounter where an acquaintance dismissed the idea of watching a local film. Juan, in turn, voiced his disappointment over the incident on his own Instagram account.

In response, Salvador criticized those who believe they are too good for local films, calling such behavior arrogant and condescending. She emphasized that passing on local films in favor of international ones does not make a person sophisticated.

Juan added that this dismissive attitude towards Filipino films makes the filmmaking process more challenging and urged people to consider local films on par with international productions. The film producer highlighted the need to support not only Philippine cinema but also Asian cinema with pride.

Both Juan and Salvador are currently promoting their film “Under Parallel Skies,” where they work alongside director Sigrid Bernardo and Thai actor Win Metawin. Juan also has a minor role in the movie.

The duo’s statements shed light on the importance of recognizing and supporting local films in the entertainment industry.
