Typhoon Goring Strengthens Gradually; Alert Level 3 Activated in 3 Towns of Cagayan and Isabela



Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 raised over Cagayan and Isabela as Typhoon Goring intensifies

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau has raised Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 over three towns in Cagayan and Isabela provinces as Typhoon Goring (international name: Saola) steadily intensifies.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Santa Ana in Cagayan, and Divilacan and Palanan in Isabela may experience heavy rainfall and gusty conditions of 89 kilometers per hour (kph) to 117 kph in at least 18 hours.

Typhoon Goring slightly strengthened with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph and gustiness of up to 185 kph. It is moving southwestward at 10 kph.

In the 5 a.m. advisory of Pagasa, the typhoon had maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.

Based on the latest available data from the state weather service, Goring’s eye was 155 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 was raised in the eastern portion of Isabela (Dinapigue, San Mariano, Ilagan City, Maconacon, Cabagan, Tumauini, San Pablo), eastern portion of Cagayan (Peñablanca, Baggao, Gattaran, Lal-Lo, Gonzaga, Santa Teresita, Buguey), and the northern part of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran).

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was hoisted over Batanes; the rest of Cagayan, including Babuyan Islands; central portion of Aurora (Dinalungan, Dipaculao); Quirino; the rest of Isabela; Apayao; eastern portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Kasibu, Quezon, Diadi, Bagabag, Solano, Villaverde); eastern portion of Ifugao (Lamut, Lagawe, Hingyon, Banaue, Mayoyao, Aguinaldo, Alfonso Lista); eastern portion of Mountain Province (Barlig, Natonin, Paracelis); and Kalinga.

Pagasa also reported that Goring continues to enhance the southwest monsoon, locally termed habagat, which is expected to bring strong winds in Bataan, Metro Manila, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon), Bicol Region, and most of Mimaropa (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan).
