TikTok Stars Join Forces with JK Labajo for Upcoming Film ‘When This is All Over’

“When This is All Over” Features Influential TikTok Personalities in its Cast

Indie filmmaker Kevin Mayuga has chosen to cast mostly new faces in his film “When This is All Over,” including singer-actor Juan Karlos “JK” Labajo and several popular TikTok personalities. The film, which is an official entry to the 19th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, will be screened from August 4 to August 18.

Mayuga explained that due to their limited budget, they couldn’t afford big-name stars, so they decided to cast personalities they knew already had a following. They searched for expressive and entertaining individuals on TikTok and found Lottiebie, Jico Umali, Aaron Maniego, and Reneé Dominique. The rest of the cast, including Labajo, were found through theater auditions.

To prepare the non-actor cast members, Mayuga enlisted the help of acting coach Brian Sy to conduct workshops. The aim was to ensure that the cast members already embodied the personalities of their characters and only needed minor adjustments. Mayuga also noted that Labajo brought a great energy to the set and was eager to collaborate and fully understand his character.

“When This is All Over” tackles themes of privilege and class, exploring how these factors impact youth culture. Mayuga explained that the film delves into the experience of being in limbo during the pandemic, questioning whether it’s acceptable to enjoy life while others are suffering. He wanted the film to be relatable and evoke a sense of familiarity.

The 19th Cinemalaya festival, where “When This is All Over” will be screened, will take place at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.
