Malacañang Declares April 10, 2024, a Regular Holiday for Eid’l Fitr

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang has declared April 10, 2024, Wednesday, a regular holiday throughout the Philippines to observe the Islamic holiday of Eid’l Fitr.

This announcement came through Proclamation No. 514 signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. following a recommendation from the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF).

The proclamation highlighted the importance of bringing the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr to the national consciousness. It aims to allow the entire Filipino nation to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony during the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr.

Eid’l Fitr is a significant Islamic holiday that marks the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. The date for this holiday is determined by the sighting of the new moon by a moon sighting committee established by the NCMF.
