The Philippines’ Best 5G Coverage Experience boosts growth in 5G data traffic with smart drives

Leading telco PLDT’s subsidiary, Smart Communications, reports a significant increase in 5G data traffic in 2023. The growth is attributed to the company’s award-winning 5G mobile network, which saw a 95% increase in average quarterly data traffic compared to the previous year. In the fourth quarter alone, there was a 16% surge in average monthly data traffic on the 5G network.

This increase is driven by the availability of more affordable 5G devices and the popularity of Postpaid Unli5G Signature plans. Smart’s Head of Consumer Wireless Business, Alex O. Caeg, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing value-packed offers and making the latest handsets accessible to subscribers.

Smart’s mobile network, recognized for delivering the best 5G coverage experience in the Philippines by Opensignal, covers 97% of the population. This network is part of PLDT’s extensive 1.1 million kilometer fiber infrastructure, reflecting the company’s dedication to expanding connectivity nationwide.

Caeg highlighted the importance of network coverage in 5G adoption, noting the positive impact on data traffic. Smart’s efforts align with PLDT’s mission to bridge the digital divide and support the government’s digitalization initiatives.

The company’s focus on enhancing mobile products and services aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the areas of industry, innovation, and infrastructure. Overall, Smart’s commitment to improving connectivity and customer experience remains a top priority.
