President Marcos appoints Eric Jose Castro Ines as Acting General Manager and Member of the Board of Directors of MIAA

President Marcos has chosen airport operations expert Eric Jose Castro Ines to serve as the Acting General Manager and Member of the Board of Directors of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) confirmed this appointment on Thursday afternoon, citing a transmittal letter dated Dec. 15, 2023, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin to Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.

Ines will be taking over the position from former MIAA chief Cesar Chiong, who was dismissed in August by the Office of the Ombudsman due to alleged grave misconduct and abuse of authority.

The MIAA, an attached agency of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), is tasked with overseeing the operations of the Manila International Airport.

Ines brings extensive experience to his new role, having graduated from the University of the Philippines and completed the Airport and Airline Management and Aviation Security course at Bailbrook College, School of Aviation in the United Kingdom.

He has previously worked as the airport station manager for Etihad Airways and Gulf Air in Manila, as well as serving as a former Gulf Air Senior Security Officer in Manila and Southeast Asia.

In addition, Ines has experience in government, having served as the Senior Executive Assistant to the Secretary of the Department of Local Government and Community Development (DLGCD) for more than a decade.

Ines’ appointment comes as the MIAA looks to continue its efforts to improve operations and services at the Manila International Airport.
