Lady Tams triumph over Lady Eagles in crucial victory



In a thrilling UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball match at the Mall of Asia Arena, the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws emerged victorious against the Ateneo Blue Eagles. The Lady Tamaraws secured a crucial four-set win with a score of 19-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-22, boosting their chances of making it to the Final Four.

Leading the charge for the Lady Tamaraws were Faida Bakanke and Chen Petallo, who both contributed 16 points each, with Bakanke achieving a career-high in points. Despite dropping the first set, FEU managed to rally back and clinch the next two sets.

In a tense fourth set, Ateneo held a three-point lead at 19-16, but FEU staged a remarkable comeback by scoring six unanswered points, eventually winning the set 25-22. The match concluded with an error by Ateneo, sealing the victory for the Lady Tamaraws.

FEU head coach Manolo Refugia expressed his pride in the team’s performance, highlighting their hard work during the game. Gerzel Petallo contributed 15 markers for FEU, while Tin Ubaldo recorded five points and 26 excellent sets.

With this win, the Lady Tamaraws secured the Final Four spots along with the La Salle Lady Spikers and the National University Lady Bulldogs. FEU improved to a 5-4 record, placing them in solo fourth, while Ateneo fell to fifth place with a 3-7 card.

The standings show Ateneo ahead of University of the East and Adamson University, both holding 2-7 win-loss records. Meanwhile, the University of the Philippines remains at the bottom of the standings with a 1-9 slate.
