LAZATIN FLYOVER

DPWH To Complete Pampanga’s Lazatin Flyover Reconstruction This April 2023

The ongoing recostruction works being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on the flyover at the intersection of Lazatin Avenue and Jose Abad Santos Avenue (formerly Gapan-San Fernando-Olongapo Road) in San Fernando City, Pampanga will be completed soon.

DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, in his inspection at the Lazatin Steel Flyover on Sunday, April 2, 2023 reported to Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan that vehicular traffic for light vehicles not exceeding 20 tons can be allowed as soon as tightening of bolts for the installed new composite steel plate girders laid with asphalt concrete, installation of railings, and clean-up works are fully completed.
DPWH thru the Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) – Bridge Management Cluster was able to make good progress of the replacement works and we can re-open the flyover ahead of schedule before end of April 2023, added Senior Undersecretary Sadain, in-charge of implementing DPWH flagship infrastructure projects.

A modular steel structure, the Lazatin flyover is originally schedule to be completed by end of May 2023 after it was dismantled in early February 2023 to undergo replacement of its 45 pieces of prefabricated segmental slabs or the composite girder with asphalt that has deteriorated due to passage of overloaded vehicles.

Senior Undersecretary Sadain was joined in the project inspection by DPWH Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Project Directors Rodrigo I. Delos Reyes and Benjamin A. Bautista, Stakeholders Relations Service Director Randy R. Del Rosario, and Engineers Samuel Bayot and Alvin Dela Cruz.

The rehabilitation of the flyover structure is in line with DPWH program of upgrading the quality and safety of national roads and bridges.
With the re-opening of the flyover, the DPWH is appealing for support of the local government unit in controlling the passage of overloaded vehicle in order to prolong the serviceability of the flyover structure and safeguard motorists or the public road users in general with the elimination of accidents.

Lazatin Flyover is a two (2) lane, 7.5 meter wide and 195 linear meter long-modular steel flyover consisting of five (5) spans, two (2) abutments and four (4) piers as well as 87 linear meter road approaches (both sides).

This project will serve incoming and outgoing traffic to and from the heart of Pampanga, City of San Fernando to neighboring towns and urban centers and potentially lessening the traveling time.

The flyover contributes in increasing the existing road capacity that will ease the traffic congestion along Lazatin Avenue and Jose Abad Santos Avenue intersection thereby providing through traffic from San Fernando City to Bataan, Zambales, and vice versa.
