PBBM to Army Special Forces: Support Our People in Times of Crisis

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. called upon the Special Forces Regiment Airborne (SFRA) of the Philippine Army to continue their unwavering support for the Filipino people during times of crisis. Speaking at the 61st anniversary celebration of the SFRA in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija, President Marcos expressed his commitment to enhancing their capabilities and ensuring the welfare of the SFRA and their families.

President Marcos highlighted the adoption of the Riverine Operations Equipment Project (ROEP) as part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) modernization efforts. The ROEP aims to enhance the SFRA’s abilities in riverine operations, including the insertion and extraction of special forces troops for rescue missions and other specialized military operations.

“With this initiative, we urge you to continue aiding your fellow Filipinos by providing support during crisis situations. Safeguard their well-being during operations and uphold the morale of the people you serve,” President Marcos emphasized. He further encouraged the SFRA to persist in their training and self-empowerment, maintaining their expertise in unconventional warfare strategies.

Notable figures such as National Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr., Special Assistant to the President Sec. Anton Lagdameo, AFP Chief Gen. Andy Centino, Philippine Army Commander Lt. Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., Northern Luzon Commander Lt. Gen. Fernyl Buca, and Special Action Force Regiment Airborne Brig. Gen. Ferdinand Napuli attended the SFRA’s anniversary event in Nueva Ecija.

President Marcos acknowledged the dedication of the SFRA personnel who have committed their lives to public service. He commended their proud history since its establishment in 1962 by former President Fidel V. Ramos, highlighting their extensive training in unconventional warfare and their valuable contributions during both wartime and peacetime operations. Their competence and professionalism have been demonstrated in combating domestic terrorist groups and supporting international peacekeeping endeavors.

The President also praised the SFRA’s fourth Special Forces Battalion for their heroic efforts in the March 2023 search and rescue operation, which saved 316 individuals from a burning passenger marine vessel. He congratulated the awardees of the SFRA’s 61st anniversary, recognizing their exceptional performance and contributions to the regiment.

President Marcos remarked, “You have exemplified self-sacrifice and resilience, going above and beyond the call of duty to protect our communities and promote internal security and peace in our beloved Republic. You have truly embodied the spirit of being ‘Silent Professionals.'”

He acknowledged the SFRA’s pivotal role in battles as well as their dedication to humanitarian assistance, which has fostered hope and increased public trust in both the military and the government.

In conclusion, President Marcos expressed gratitude on behalf of the government for the SFRA’s expertise and their adherence to the core principles of their duty towards the Philippines and its people. He emphasized that their mastery of unconventional warfare strategies is of great significance given the complex threats facing the nation today.
