Parokya ni Edgar’s musical production is lavish and costly

Successful musical groups have found a new way to engage with their fans and the public by venturing into the world of theater. APO Hiking Society, Eraserheads, and Parokya ni Edgar are among those who have taken this step.

In 2018, APO Hiking Society approved the staging of “Eto Na! Musikal nApo!” directed by Robbie Guevarra. The Eraserheads also gave the green light for the popular “Ang Huling El Bimbo” to be staged at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, with a successful re-run last year.

For Parokya ni Edgar, their music came to life in the original musical “Buruguduystunstugudunstuy,” a risky venture by the Full House Theater Company. The production featured colorful costumes, grand set pieces, and a large cast of over 40 members.

Newport World Resorts President and CEO Kingston Sian emphasized the importance of showcasing original Filipino musicals, following the success of previous productions like “Bituing Walang Ningning” and “Ang Huling El Bimbo.” The elaborate production of “Buruguduystunstugudunstuy” aimed to provide the Filipino audience with a top-notch theatrical experience.

The musical, based on Parokya ni Edgar’s songs, featured a talented cast and production team, with director Dexter Santos, musical director Ejay Yatco, and a host of designers and choreographers bringing the vision to life. The story revolves around four women on a journey of self-discovery, set to the band’s iconic tracks.

The members of Parokya ni Edgar, including frontman Chito Miranda, were in attendance during the media night, overwhelmed by the staging of their songs. The musical also featured the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra, adding a grand musical element to the production.

Overall, “Buruguduystunstugudunstuy” showcased the best of Filipino talent, music, and creativity, with the support of Newport World Resorts and the band themselves. The success of these musical endeavors proves the enduring popularity and impact of these iconic Filipino music groups.
