On July 20, 2023, a significant milestone was achieved as Senate President Juan Miguel F. Zubiri, alongside Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan, presided over the topping off ceremony for the new Senate Building Project located within Navy Village, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

Joining the ceremony to celebrate the completion of the building’s structure were esteemed Senators Loren Legarda, Nancy Binay, Cynthia Villar, Joel Villanueva, Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, Ralph Recto, Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Ronald dela Rosa, and former Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III. Also in attendance were DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, former Undersecretary Antonio Molano Jr., as well as Project Directors Soledad Florencio, Benjamin Bautista, and Rodrigo delos Reyes, Finance Service Director Genevieve Cuaresma, and Project Manager Jose Aguinaldo.

Secretary Bonoan highlighted the significance of the event, as the highest structural element of the building was successfully installed, signifying a crucial step towards the completion of the project.

He stated, “Today’s ceremony signifies the nearing completion of this iconic new Senate Building that will provide a conducive work environment and bolster the productivity of our lawmakers and their staff.”

The new Senate Building is envisioned to represent the Senate’s forward-looking perspective, known as “Bagong Senado sa Ika-Dalawang Siglo,” aiming to provide a green, secure, practical, and iconic workplace for future generations of Senators and their staff.

With an allocated budget of P8.6 billion, the DPWH Unified Project Management Office – Buildings Management Cluster is overseeing the construction of the building within a total area of 18,320 square meters.

Once finished, the building will consist of four towers, each with eleven floors, and three basements, providing a minimum of 1,200 parking spaces to accommodate the Senate’s functions and operations.

Embodying the Philippines’ rich cultural heritage, the state-of-the-art design of the building incorporates the Barong Tagalog, a symbol of honor and Filipino identity.

The DPWH aims to complete the civil works on the new Senate Building by the end of 2024, moving one step closer to the realization of this modern and functional parliamentary space.
