Meralco Power Academy to Host First-Ever Giga Summit on Sustainable Energy and Energy Efficiency

The Meralco Power Academy (MPA) is set to host the inaugural Giga Summit on Sustainable Energy, Energy Efficiency, and Future Grid. Bringing together more than 30 local and international power industry experts, the three-day event will take place from September 11 to 13 at The Fifth at Rockwell in Makati City.

The Giga Summit aims to promote knowledge exchange among industry leaders, policymakers, and experts from around the world. It will serve as a platform for exchanging insights, shaping power and energy trends, and sharing best practices.

The Sustainable Energy discussions on the first day will focus on accelerating the transition to cleaner and more progressive sources of energy that benefit both people and the planet. The summit will feature nuclear power experts, including Dr. Francisco “Ike” Dimayuga of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and Roland Backhaus of Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation.

According to Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer and MPA Vice Chairman Ronnie L. Aperocho, the Giga Summit will spark relevant discussions on the role of next-generation technologies in the transition towards stable and sustainable energy supply. With the growing interest in nuclear power, the invited experts will shed light on the opportunities and exciting developments in small and micro modular reactors.

The second day of the summit will focus on energy efficiency, exploring various ways to optimize energy consumption. On the third day, the discussions will revolve around future grids and the fast-tracking of advanced metering infrastructure development to meet the growing demand for a smarter and more resilient energy infrastructure.

Distinguished energy experts from both the government and private sectors, including the Department of Energy, Energy Regulatory Commission, Meralco, ASEAN Centre for Energy, Commonwealth Edison Co., Korea Electric Power Corporation, and Plasma Kinetics, will participate in the summit.
