Magnolia remains undefeated after defeating NLEX

Magnolia Hotshots maintain pristine record, blow past NLEX, 99-72

The Magnolia Hotshots showcased their signature relentless defense in the second half to secure a commanding 99-72 victory over NLEX in the 2023 PBA Commissioner’s Cup. The game took place at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Friday, Dec. 1.

Import Tyler Bey led Magnolia’s assault with 23 points, contributing to their unyielding defense that propelled them to their fifth straight win of the season. Mark Barroca also had an impressive performance with 19 points, five rebounds, and nine assists. Meanwhile, Jio Jalalon put up another all-around effort with 11 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.

The Hotshots tightened up their defensive screws in the third frame and fueled a 15-0 outburst to establish a double-digit advantage before ultimately padding the lead to as many as 29 points in the final frame.

Despite the return of Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser and the addition of new import Stokley Chaffey Jr., NLEX struggled against Magnolia’s suffocating defense, allowing the Hotshots to dominate the game. Chaffey Jr. had a solid debut with 23 points and 19 rebounds, but he also committed eight turnovers as he adjusted to coach Frankie Lim’s system.

Kris Rosales was the only other double-digit scorer for the Road Warriors, who slid to a 2-3 slate after the loss.

The Hotshots’ spotless record keeps them at the top spot as they continue to dominate the competition in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
