Local officials urged to prioritize projects with long-term benefits

In a recent event held at the Marriott Hotel in Pasay City, President Marcos emphasized the importance of local executives undertaking ambitious projects with long-term benefits for their constituents. Speaking at the general assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP), Marcos encouraged officials to focus on initiatives that are not influenced by changes in leadership and promote community engagement in decision-making processes.

During his address, Marcos urged mayors to prioritize projects that transcend multiple terms and serve the greater good, rather than short-term projects aimed at gaining recognition. He emphasized the need for officials to align their programs with the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to improve the quality of life for their communities.

The President highlighted the national government’s commitment to climate change expenditures, including allocations for water security, sustainable energy, and environmental stability. He stressed the importance of collaboration between the national government, local government units, civil society organizations, and the private sector in achieving the SDGs by 2030.

More than 1,000 municipal mayors, led by LMP national president La Paz, Abra Mayor Joseph Sto. Niño Bernos, attended the event where Marcos received a manifesto of support. The midterm elections are set to take place in May next year, and Marcos urged officials to focus on impactful projects that benefit their constituents in the long run.
