Korean Actor Lee Sun-kyun Found Dead at 48 in Apparent Suicide
Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, known for his role in the Oscar-winning film “Parasite,” was found dead on Dec. 27th at the age of 48. Lee Sun-kyun, who also starred in the drama “Coffee Prince,” was under investigation by the police for illegal drug use.
The police had been investigating Lee Sun-kyun since October for the use of marijuana and psychotropic drugs and had banned him from leaving South Korea due to the ongoing investigation. Korean media reported that Lee Sun-kyun was found dead in his car near Waryong Park in Jongno-gu, Seoul. It was reported that he passed away in an apparent suicide, with a charcoal briquette found in the passenger seat of his car.
According to Yonhap News, a report was received from Lee’s wife at around 10:12 a.m. on Dec. 27, stating that “her husband left the house after writing a note.” Police were dispatched and found Lee’s vehicle, confirming his identity. Lee is survived by his wife, actress Jeon Hye-jin, and two sons. His funeral arrangements have not yet been announced. Lee Sun-kyun was born in 1975.
