De Guzman Emerges Victorious in Malaysia

A seven-year-old golf prodigy from the Philippines emerged victorious in the recent Malaysian Championship held at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club in Kuala Lumpur. Lucas de Guzman showcased his skills by finishing with a total score of five-over par 96 in the 7-Under boys class.

In the final round, De Guzman’s performance was highlighted by an even-par 19, which included a birdie on a challenging par-5 hole. This impressive showing not only secured him the championship but also allowed him to qualify for the US Kids Priority Status.

As the son of Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines director Lue de Guzman and Rommel de Guzman, the young golfer is now set to compete in the US Kids World Championship in Pinehurst, North Carolina on August 1-3. De Guzman, a Grade 2 student at Home School Global, displayed consistent play throughout the tournament, shooting a two-over par 38 in the opening round and a three-over par 39 in the second round.

De Guzman outperformed local favorite Raiyan Mohd Amri, who finished in second place with a total score of 98, and Singapore’s Muhammad Devian Reyndra Adityawan of Indonesia, who claimed third place with a score of 110. This victory marks De Guzman’s second title abroad, following his win in San Ramon, California in 2023.
