Filipino Basketball Sensation Kai Sotto to Join Orlando Magic in NBA Summer League

Kai Sotto, the highly regarded Filipino basketball star, has accepted an invitation from the Orlando Magic to join their roster for the upcoming NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

The exciting news was initially reported by esteemed STAR columnist Quinito Henson, who revealed that Sotto, standing at an impressive 7-3, had attracted interest from multiple teams. Ultimately, the Orlando Magic presented the most enticing opportunity for Sotto.

In preparation for this milestone, Sotto recently participated in training camps with the Utah Jazz, Dallas Mavericks, and New York Knicks. He also underwent a workout session with the Orlando Magic prior to the 2022 NBA Draft.

Before venturing to Japan, Sotto made his mark in Australia’s NBL as a member of the Adelaide 36ers. Throughout his 27 games, he showcased his skills, averaging 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds.

After going undrafted last year, Sotto secured a contract extension with the B.League’s Hiroshima Dragonflies. During his initial stint with Hiroshima, he boasted impressive statistics of 9.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.4 blocks, and 1.4 assists per game. Notably, his new contract includes an opt-out clause, allowing him to pursue an NBA opportunity if a team expresses interest.

Scheduled to take place from July 7 to 17 in Las Vegas, Nevada, the 2023 NBA Summer League promises to be an exciting platform for Sotto to showcase his talent on a grand stage.
