As the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) strives to keep up with the rapidly increasing demands in the country’s air traffic, it has always endeavored to secure the safety, reliability and convenience of passengers and operators in its airports.
Recently, CAAP Airport and Area Center Managers reported updates on the completed development projects at some airports in the country.
According to Acting Area Center XI – Davao International Airport (DIA) Manager Rex A. Obcena, the newly constructed north wing of the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) check in area expansion was completed and opened on February 28, 2023.
The CAAP-DIA, through its Engineering Department and Security and Intelligence Service, along with the help of the Office of Transportation Security (OTS), PNP-Aviation Security Unit (PNP-AVSEU), airline operators, and the City Tourism Office have rerouted the airport’s ingress or entrance access for departing passengers at the PTB’s newly constructed north wing. Restroom facilities in the PTB have also been improved to serve passengers better.
On the other hand, Area Center X – Laguindingan Airport Manager Engr. Job B. De Jesus reported that various development projects have also been accomplished and are ongoing in Laguindingan Airport such as the construction of communal toilets and food stalls, installation of new LED lights, construction of an accounting office, and the construction of guard posts and a welcome arch.
With the goal to address the increasing demand of the public for more accessible restrooms, and the availability of a variety of food cuisine notably from Northern Mindanao, the project of adding communal toilets at the Parking Area and the construction of food stalls were recognized.
For a better and safer ambiance within Laguindingan airport’s vicinity, and to enhance the passive security measures of the airport, 200 conventional streetlights and 95 conventional floodlights have been replaced with LED type lights. Phase 2 of the LED installation project will be implemented along the 4.6km Access Road of Laguindingan Airport.
Another completed project in Laguindingan Airport involves the construction of an improved Accounting Office at its Admin Building which provides a conducive and spacious workplace for CAAP-Laguindingan Airport employees.
Lastly, among the projects that are ongoing in Laguindingan airport are the construction of a new entry and exit arch structure and a guard house, and the construction of 6 movable and 4 stilted guard posts to be installed at landside and airside of the airport. The project, which started on November 29, 2022 and is targeted to finish by April 27, 2023, will aid in ensuring a better security system at the main airport entrance.
