Liga Republika aims to propel the growth of the League of Legends community in the Philippines.

New Tournament ‘Liga Republika’ Set to Reignite PH League of Legends Community in 2024

In an effort to revitalize the Philippine League of Legends community, Riot Games Philippines has announced the launch of Liga Republika in 2024.

The Philippines has a history of popular online and LAN games, with Defense of the Ancients (DoTA) being a favorite around 20 years ago. However, League of Legends has since taken over the spotlight and become a major player in the eSports scene.

During a recent announcement on April 26, 2024, Riot Games Brand Manager Kimi Salazar acknowledged that eSports in the Philippines has not entirely met the expectations of local players. As a response, Riot Games is launching Liga Republika with a goal to create a league tailored for Filipino League of Legends players.

Joel Guzman, the Country Manager, stated that the tournament will provide a platform for local gamers to prepare for future global competitions. With a prize pool of ₱1 million and various perks, the nationwide tournament is expected to attract over 300 LoL players.

The kickoff for Liga Republika will begin with the Kickoff Invitational in May 2024. This event will feature eight teams from the previous year’s Empyrean Cup 2023 competing for the top 4 slots.

Following the kickoff, Liga Republika will open registrations for 384 teams to participate in the Open Qualifiers in June 2024. The top 12 teams will then move on to compete for the top spots, leading to a group stage featuring 16 teams in August.

The ultimate showdown will take place at an offline LAN event where the top eight teams will battle it out in front of a live audience. The winning team will secure the championship title and the largest portion of the million-peso prize pool.

Riot Games invites fans to stay updated on the latest developments by following League of Legends’ Instagram and Facebook pages, as well as teasing additional events and collaborations with online influencers in the future.
