‘We must strive for improvement’

San Beda Head Coach Sees Room for Improvement Despite Season Opener Win

In their first NCAA Season 99 game, the San Beda Red Lions emerged victorious with a score of 85-61 against the Arellano Chiefs. However, head coach Yuri Escueta believes there is still room for improvement.

Escueta pointed out the team’s 11 turnovers as an area that needs to be addressed. He also reminded his players to stay composed during challenging plays. “It’s still a long way. It’s the first game of the season, and we have to play tough, especially in the second half. As the season progresses, I’m sure other teams will play tougher,” Escueta said in his post-game interview.

He emphasized the importance of being prepared for physical games and being able to handle strong defenses. Escueta acknowledged that turnovers tend to occur when the game gets physical, so the team needs to work on managing those situations.

Despite the need for improvement, the head coach commended his players for stepping up their game after losing their starting five from the previous season. “It’s the players that should be given credit. They took up the challenge of losing our starters,” Escueta explained. He expressed pride in the remaining players who have stepped up to fill the void left by their former teammates.

With their win in the season opener, the San Beda Red Lions are off to a promising start. However, Coach Escueta is determined to push the team to reach their full potential and address areas that need improvement as the season progresses.
