Taal Volcano struck by grassfire

The state seismologist has reported a grassfire at the southwest tip of Taal Volcano Island on Thursday evening.

In a Facebook post around 11:30 p.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) mentioned the ongoing grassfire at the southwest tip of Taal Volcano Island where the DOST-PHIVOLCS’ Binintiang Munti Observation Station (VTBM) is located since 6:40 p.m.

Phivolcs noted that a grassfire “frequently occurs” in the VTBM and mentioned a similar incident happening last year. A grassfire was also reported on March 4 at the VTBM, but no damage was reported.

Despite the grassfire, Taal Volcano remains under alert level 1 according to Phivolcs’s latest advisory.
