Google Releases 2023 Year in Search for the Philippines
Google has released its Year in Search 2023, offering an annual compilation of the top trending keywords and terms that Filipinos have been searching for over the past year.
The list includes a wide array of topics, from SIM registration and Korean actor Mackenyu to Lakers vs Warriors and Israeli-Hamas war. The top 10 lists serve as a record of the events and issues that captured people’s attention throughout the year.
SIM registration led the News list, likely due to new laws requiring phone number registration. Major international events such as the Israel-Hamas war also made the list, ranking fifth in the top News trends.
Korean actor Ahn Bo-hyun was the top male personality on the list, largely due to his romantic relationship with BLACKPINK’s Jisoo. Other popular personalities included Mackenyu and Chinese actor Chen Zhe Yuan.
Online media consumption also played a significant factor in this year’s search trends, with TV shows and movies available on streaming platforms earning multiple spots on the list.
The top search trends in the Philippines for 2023 include SIM registration, precinct finder, persona non grata, Nipah virus, and the Israeli-Hamas war. In sports, Lakers vs Warriors, Lakers vs Nuggets, and FIBA World Cup were among the top search trends.
The list also includes popular Korean series, songs and lyrics, games, personalities, movies, and farewells that trended among Filipinos in 2023.
