Filipino Lawmaker Urges Swift Evacuation of Filipinos from Gaza as Egypt-Gaza Border Opens

In a statement released on Saturday night, Kabayan Party-list Representative Ron Salo, chairman of the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs, called on Philippine authorities to quickly evacuate Filipinos from Gaza following the opening of the Egypt-Gaza border.

Expressing gratitude towards international organizations and major powers involved in the decision to open the border, Salo described it as a “beacon of hope” for the trapped people inside Gaza. He emphasized the importance of seizing this opportunity to alleviate the suffering of Filipinos during these challenging times.

Salo urged the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to closely coordinate with Egyptian officials and international organizations in order to ensure the safe exit of Filipinos from the region. Mentioning the recent surprise attack by Hamas rebel fighters on Israel, he acknowledged the urgent need to bring Filipino citizens home swiftly and securely.

The lawmaker stressed the significance of maintaining clear and constant communication with Filipinos during the evacuation operation. He emphasized that timely updates and support are essential to assure the affected individuals that their government is working tirelessly to guarantee their safety and well-being.

Salo called for unity among the Filipino community, stating that no Filipino should be left behind during this critical period. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens and urged fellow Filipinos to stand united in ensuring the safe return of their compatriots.
