Regine Velasquez and Sarah Geronimo recognized at inaugural Billboard Philippines Women in Music awards



Women in the Philippine music industry were celebrated at the inaugural Billboard Philippines Women in Music Awards on March 22 at Samsung Hall in SM Aura Premier, Taguig City.

Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, Sarah Geronimo, and music icon Pilita Corrales were among the honorees of the night. Regine received the Powerhouse award for her contributions to Original Pilipino Music over the past 37 years. In her acceptance speech, she highlighted the challenges faced by women in the industry as they age, expressing that her son is her legacy.

Sarah Geronimo, fresh off her Global Force Award win at the Billboard Women in Music Awards in California, made history once again as the first-ever recipient of the Woman of the Year award at the Billboard Philippines Women in Music Awards. She thanked the Women in Music for their inspiration and motivation.

Music icon Pilita Corrales, unable to attend the event, was represented by her daughter Jackie Lou Blanco who accepted the Icon award on her behalf. Jackie shared anecdotes about her mother’s generosity and talent, emphasizing how Pilita has been an inspiration to many in the industry.

Other honorees of the night included Ena Mori and P-pop girl group BINI, who received the Rulebreaker and Rising Stars awards respectively. The People’s Choice Award went to Morissette, while Belle Mariano’s single “Bugambilya” was awarded the Listener’s Choice Award.

The Billboard Philippines Women in Music Awards showcased the talent and contributions of these remarkable women in the Philippine music scene.
