Matthew Montebon’s heroic performance secures Adamson’s spot in the Final Four race.

Adamson Soaring Falcons’ Final Four hopes were kept alive by Matthew Montebon’s game-winning three-pointer with three seconds left in their game against University of the East (UE) in the second round of the UAAP Season 86 men’s basketball tournament. The Soaring Falcons secured a 63-61 win at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Sunday, November 19.

The victory improved Adamson’s tally to 7-7, forcing the Ateneo Blue Eagles into a playoff on Wednesday for the last semifinal seat after falling into a two-way tie. Montebon finished with 16 points and seven rebounds, including the crucial game-winning triple.

Cedrick Manzano had a double-double outing of 16 markers and 10 rebounds, while Vince Magbuhos added 10 points. The closely-contested match saw both squads tied at 47-all in the early goings of the fourth period before Adamson briefly pulled away.

However, UE countered with six unanswered points to snatch the lead before Montebon’s heroics rescued Adamson’s semifinal dreams. Rey Remogat and Precious Momowei paced the outgoing Red Warriors with double-double performances. UE ended its season with a 4-10 slate following the loss to Adamson.
