Liam Cunningham and Benedict Wong: The Standout Duo in Netflix’s ‘3 Body Problem’

Benedict Wong and Liam Cunningham team up for the new Netflix sci-fi series “3 Body Problem,” which begins streaming today. The series is based on Chinese writer Cixin Liu’s trilogy of novels “Remembrance of Earth’s Past,” with a fanbase that includes big names like Barack Obama, Elon Musk, and George R.R. Martin.

The story is described as a mix of mystery thriller with themes of alien invasion, the end of the world, and complex human nature. The creators, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, were inspired by the novels and decided to take on the project after their success with “Game of Thrones.”

The showrunners made narrative modifications, such as introducing characters from later books in the first season and setting the story in the UK. Despite the genre similarities, they claim it is a departure from their previous work on GoT.

The series spans decades and virtual realms, starting during the Chinese Cultural Revolution and continuing to the present day. A group of young scientists in Britain reunite to unravel mysterious deaths within the academic community.

Benedict Wong and Liam Cunningham play key roles in the series, with Wong portraying the intelligence operative Da Shi and Cunningham as the planetary defense strategist Thomas Wade. The actors shared insights into their characters and the dynamics between them in the press notes.

The show features an international ensemble cast, aiming to represent a global struggle to survive. Both Wong and Cunningham praised the showrunners for their diverse casting choices and respect for the source material.

“3 Body Problem” promises high production value and a unique take on the alien invasion narrative. Fans can expect a gripping and thought-provoking sci-fi experience as the series unfolds on Netflix.
