DSWD to offer aid to drivers impacted by PUVMP

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has announced that it will be providing assistance to drivers affected by the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP).

DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao stated that the agency is prepared to assist drivers who approach them, with the assistance subject to assessment by DSWD social workers.

Some of the possible forms of assistance include the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations and the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP). Drivers who meet the eligibility requirements under the SLP or are listed in the database of poor citizens will be given priority for assistance.

The deadline for consolidation of the controversial PUVMP was on April 30. The program has faced scrutiny and criticism, with transportation officials being urged to be prepared to address concerns.
