Korean Actor Kim Seung-su to Participate in 2023 Philippines-Korea Cultural Exchange Festival

Kim Seung-su, a renowned Korean actor famous for his role in the drama “Jumong,” has been confirmed as a special guest for the upcoming 2023 Philippines-Korea Cultural Exchange Festival. The festival, now on its 32nd year, aims to strengthen the friendship and cultural ties between Korea and the Philippines. It will be held on September 30 at Robinson’s Place Manila.

The event is jointly organized by the United Korean Community Association (UKCA) and Manila Koreatown Association (MKA) and is supported by the Korean Embassy, the Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

As this year’s festival ambassador, Kim Seung-su has eagerly agreed to attend the event. The festivities will kick off with a spectacular parade starting from Robinson’s Place Manila and leading to Manila Koreatown and back.

Participants, regardless of nationality, will have the opportunity to showcase their cultural heritage by adorning traditional attire. While Filipinos will don the elegant Barong Tagalog and Baro’t Saya, Koreans will proudly wear the Hanbok. The lively parade, accompanied by street performers, will signify a day of celebration and unity.

Throughout the day, attendees will have the chance to engage with cultural booths honoring the artistic accomplishments of both nations. From 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., KCC Philippines will host a Hangeul calligraphy booth, inviting attendees to explore the beauty of Korean writing. The NCCA will also present an exhibit showcasing traditional Philippine crafts, paying tribute to the country’s rich artistic heritage.

Furthermore, various booths will provide opportunities for festival-goers to immerse themselves in Korean culture. One of the highlights will be the “Kimchi Making Experience,” available for the first 100 pre-registered participants.

The stage performances will undoubtedly steal the show, featuring a fusion of traditional and modern art from Korea and the Philippines. The lineup of invited performers includes SWEEP Art Company for a Korean traditional dance and Salmunori, soprano Sung Moon Won, NCCA’s Kontemporaryong Gamelan Pilipino, K-pop dance cover groups Illea PH, Idyllic PH, Alpha and Principium, alongside P-pop groups YGIG and PLUUS.

The 2023 Philippines-Korea Cultural Exchange Festival promises to be a day filled with cultural appreciation, entertainment, and a celebration of the enduring friendship between the two nations.
