K-pop Star G-Dragon Fully Cooperates with Police in Alleged Drug Use Investigation

October 30, 2022 – On suspicion of drug use, popular K-pop group Big Bang member G-Dragon, whose real name is Kwon Ji-yong, has expressed his full cooperation with the ongoing police investigation. The Ministry of Justice has also imposed a travel ban on G-Dragon and actor Lee Sun-kyun, preventing them from leaving South Korea.

Kim Soo-hyun, G-Dragon’s legal counsel from the law firm K-1 Chamber, released a statement on October 30 affirming the singer’s innocence, stating that he has never taken any drugs. The statement addressed the appointment of a lawyer, a former Constitutional Court judge, and the payment of a large amount of fees, dismissing them as speculative false reports.

The lawyer further revealed that G-Dragon submitted a letter of intent to appear voluntarily to the drug crime investigation unit of the Incheon Police Agency Metropolitan Investigation Unit. He also expressed his willingness to undergo hair and urine tests in order to prove his innocence.

The legal counsel emphasized G-Dragon’s strong intention to cooperate, stating, “Mr. Kwon Ji-yong strongly expressed his intention to voluntarily appear and actively cooperate with the investigation through his letter of intent to appear voluntarily and his lawyer’s opinion, and voluntarily submitted all materials necessary for the investigation in order to quickly resolve the injustice by quickly uncovering the substantive truth through rapid investigation.”

The lawyer concluded by assuring that they have informed the police about their willingness to actively participate in hair and urine tests and are currently coordinating a schedule for G-Dragon’s voluntary attendance.

As the investigation progresses, G-Dragon’s fans and the public await the truth to be revealed, as the K-pop star maintains his innocence against allegations of drug use.
